nadicom completed the following trials in the National Plant Research Centre, Oakpark, Co. Carlow, Ireland and with a commercial broccoli grower in 2016/2017:
1st field trial
Plants: Lucerne/Alfalfa seeds coated with rhizobia planted in Summer 2016
Results: The treated plants showed a significant difference to untreated plants. Treated lucerne are considerably greener and look lusher and healthier, untreated plants are smaller and often yellow in colour.
Statistical analysis revealed that both treatment and harvest and the interaction between those factors are statistically significant (P<0.001) for yield, measured as fresh or dry weight. Significant differences in yield between treated and untreated seed plots were found for the first three cuts (1: 27/09/2016; 2: 23/05/2016; 3:03/07/2017). No significant differences were detected for the last two cuts. Differences in yield between harvests were also found to be significant.
A yield analysis was carried out over 2 years.
2nd field trial
Plants: Beans treated with Bacillus for the prevention of Chocolate Spot.
Results: Yield tonnes/ha: untreated 6.74, treated with Bacillus: 7.15, full treatment: 7.42. No statistically significant differences. Treated with Bacillus crops showed a 4% reduction in yield whilst untreated showed a 9% reduction in yield in comparison to full chemical fungicide treated plants.
A yield analysis was carried out over one year.
3rd field trial
Plants: Broccoli
A Broccoli trial was completed in 2017 with Paul Brophy, Produce, Naas, Co. Kildare.
Results: Results showed greener leaves, quicker germination, better tap roots and higher bacterial and mycorrhrizal load in the soil after treatment with rhizo power.
